How long does a session last?
A session lasts 60 minutes.
How long will I need to be in counselling?
Counselling can be short term or longer term. It depends on the individual and the nature of their concerns. My intention is to work you for as long as necessary and not a moment longer. You'll know when you're ready to move on.
What will happen in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for you to discover if counselling may be of benefit to you and for me to establish if I am the most suitable counsellor to help to you. This will involve asking you some questions so I can get a sense of the nature of the problems you are facing at the moment. It's also a chance for you to share what you hope to get out of counselling and to ask any questions you may have about counselling or how we may work together.
Do I have to come back after the first session?
No. The first session is to help you decide if counselling may be of benefit to you. There's no pressure to return.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes. As a self employed person I still have to pay my expenses even when appointments are cancelled. Therefore I require 48 Hours notice if you need to cancel an appointment. If this isn't possible a Cancellation Fee of €30 is payable at the next session.
Is counselling confidential?
In general, everything spoken about or taking place within the counselling environment is completely confidential. However, there are some limits to confidentiality. I will discuss these with you during your first session.
Do you work with adolescents or couples?
No. At the moment I do not work with adolescents or couples.
Can I speak with you outside of my appointment time?
In order for you to get the most out of counselling it is important that we limit our contact to your scheduled appointment times. The exception to this is if you are in crisis.
Do we have to work together in person before I can use Telephone Counselling?
Yes. Telephone Counselling is available when we have worked together for a number of sessions. This is to ensure that I have a good sense of the problems you are dealing with and we have established a good working relationship before transferring to the telephone.

No. I will cover the cost of the telephone call. However, telephone Counselling Fees still apply. See here for details.
