Help for Anxiety

Managing anxiety can seem like a full time job. It can leave us feeling afraid, bewildered, exhausted and distressed. Sometimes we may feel anxious but we don't know why. How can this be? It can seem that anxiety is always present, constantly eating away at our well being, draining us of our energy and our peace of mind

As we do our best to cope with anxiety we may encounter a number of symptoms.  We may experience shortness of breath, a racing heart, muscle tension, sweating, blushing or nausea. We may think that we're silly for feeling so anxious or even that our anxiety is a sign that we're going mad. In response to these painful thoughts and emotions we may do whatever we can to hide our anxiety from others and even from ourselves if we can manage it.

Maybe you struggle to cope with anxiety in one or more areas in your life. Do you find yourself worrying a lot about your future, your job, your relationship or your health?  Are you a perfectionist? Is the pressure of having to get everything right getting you down? Possibly you dread having to meet and interact with new people?

Do you worry that you may not be a good enough person?  Maybe you feel something awful is about to happen that is out of your control? Or are you anxious that you have yet to reach significant milestones in life and are stressed about having to make important decisions?

Anxiety can cause us untold misery. But it doesn't have to be this way forever.

How can counselling help me?

Counselling is a safe space where you can gain a better understanding of your anxiety in a confidential and non-judgemental environment.

With the aid of CBT, a type of practical therapy, counselling can help you identify the sources of your anxiety and develop effective strategies to manage the symptoms of anxiety in a manner that works for you.

Together CBT and counselling target the three main areas of anxiety: thoughts, behaviours and physical symptoms, helping you to get a grip of your fears and re-engage with life.

Why choose me as your counsellor?

Having personally experienced and learned to manage anxiety, also with the help of counselling and CBT, I can draw upon my experiences for your benefit. I believe I am in a position not only to appreciate the practical and emotional effort required to tackle your anxiety but also the challenges you my encounter along the way.

To help facilitate this process I work in a straight forward, flexible and down to earth manner.  I'm not here to judge you or to tell you what to do. Together, we participate in finding the particular combination of interventions for anxiety that work for you.
