You may have come across this site at a difficult time in your life. Perhaps you have been struggling with anxiety, depression or bereavement or possibly another issue for quite a while. You may have heard that counselling can make a difference but you're not quite sure how. How can talking to a complete stranger help? How can they possibly understand where you've come from or what you're going through? You're not alone. I've been where you are now.
Before I studied to be a counsellor I experienced what it's like to be a client. In the beginning I wasn't sure quite what to expect and although it proved to be challenging at times counselling helped me to find new and better ways to cope with the difficulties I was facing. Counselling has made a real difference to my life.
This site is based not just on my beliefs and values as a professional counsellor but also on my experiences as a client. This may help you to decide if counselling can make a difference in your life and just as importantly, if I am a counsellor you believe you can work with.
Essentially counselling is time dedicated to you. It is a protected space where you and your concerns come first and a time when you can truly be yourself. Being listened to in an objective and nonjudgemental way by a caring and sensitive professional gives you an opportunity to explore your concerns in a manner you may have never experienced before.
This can help to generate fresh perspectives which in turn can lead to new ways to cope. This type of dedicated listening where the focus is on what you want to do rather than what you should do is rare to find in everyday life and is instrumental in how counselling can make a difference.
With so many counsellors advertising online it can be difficult to choose the right one for you. The following is a summary of what I can offer you as your counsellor if you choose to work with me. Please get in touch here if you have any questions before you make your decision. However, I encourage you to shop around before you decide. That's what I did.
Essentially I believe in a transparent and down to earth approach to counselling. To help you decide if counselling may be of benefit the first session is only €30. There's no pressure to make another appointment if it's not for you. If you decide counselling may be of help, regular appointments are €60.
Sometimes it can be impractical to arrange a counselling session during the week. Saturday appointments are a convenient alternative when you're under less pressure for time.
Cash flow can be an issue for us all on occasion. Sometimes paying by Credit Card or Debit Card can be more convenient. You can make a payment at the end of a session. However, if you prefer you can also pay by Cash, Paypal or by Bank Transfer.
In the event that you may be unable to make a session for whatever reason, Telephone Counselling gives you an opportunity to keep your appointment in a different way. A Telephone Counselling session can be arranged for another time during the week or in the evening if it's more suitable.
Having finally made your decision to try counselling and summoned the courage to get in touch, I remember what it's like waiting to take the next step. Therefore I will return your initial call or email within 24 hours.
If you've visited other counselling sites you may have noticed that some sessions are 50 minutes long. I believe in giving a full hour. This gives you more time and space to explore your concerns in a way that suits you.
Although attentive and nonjudgemental listening is at the heart of counselling, I'm not just going to sit there and listen. Part of how I work is to help you identify fresh perspectives and develop strategies that can help convert your goals into reality.
You may have heard that CBT or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy can be effective for many personal problems including various forms of anxiety and depression. As CBT is one of the main counseling approaches I use we can include it as part of our work together if it's suitable in your situation.
